Look back in sorrow 2
Beached
did i think
if I left my body untended
momentarily
I would lose the way back
drown in my mother’s image
who is lost
and drifting aimlessly
in unknown shoreless seas
did I make
of thought an anchor
and a crown
a heavy chainbound god
to whom I clung
in desperation
bereft
with nothing else
to call my own
the world I inhabit
is not my own
I squat
on the shore
counting and recounting
particles of sand
my father’s house
is crumbling to the ground
if I am finally set adrift
washed free by waves
and pulled
into the tidal swell
all markers will be lost
and I
a piece of driftwood
bleached to bone
might drift to shore again
might not return

the presentaion went fine, but she didnt like my bit on peter griffen, too much like an advert n not enough like an essay :( but the rest was good :D
Helene Kippert
Glad to hear it went well. :o) Did you find a local artist to include, or was that peter griffen?
hatefueled
yep, peter griffen is an abstract expressionist in melbourne/sydney.

I really like this portrait, I love its looseness and the way it conveys a melancholy emotion.
Helene Kippert
Thanks MBartworks.
Cathie Sherwood
Have been doing work with grief for years, this encapsulates all the emotions and synthesises them into an overall moment! The drops look like tears, but not attached to her necessarily….LOVE IT!
Is it a possible to use in a book down the track, obviously with you as artist!??
Helene Kippert
Me too Cathie – this actually came from my own grief work – an attempt to embody what I was feeling at the time. RB is talking about introducing art books some time in the future. I haven’t really thought about it but you never know I guess. Thanks for your comment.
Josepmestres
Very expressive. A good work.
Helene Kippert
Thanks Josepmestres.
Mandy Moore
It’s a self-portrait, isn’t it? It’s so full of emotion. I also like the words you wrote to go with it, Helene.

I feel the pathos of both the pic and the words.
Going down to the sea
has often been a way for me to deal with emotional upheavals.
They have a new degree at our local uni called artshealth.
If I was younger I would be tempted. I think art can often be a way to release, deal with and move on from emotional events.
