1945

it must have been a good day back in 1945
when the war was over and you were alive
and on that day in 1945 you didn’t load your gun
that’s when they finally surrendered
it’s all over now, it’s done

maybe your father killed your sister raped
your brother missing, your mother dead
you full of pain – but you survived

those crying children screamed for years inside your mind
the vision of dead bodies wouldn’t let you sleep at night
your broken youth took long to heal
you tried hard to forget the stinking smell
the noise the smoke the dying mates, the hand grenade

but it all keeps coming back
the concentration camps, the bones
the cut off heads and bloody guts
and starving men in overcrowded camps

and you were there to see it all
to see the ruins of the war
you saw how ugly men can be but you survived

but life goes on and time helps covering your scars
and it was over then, it was all over

they said: ‘we must never forget’
and that we always should remember
and let us never fight again
oh let us never fight again
never ever fight again

well, that was many years ago
before korea and vietnam
and bangladesh and cambodia
and cyprus and israel
and laos and ireland
and pakistan and egypt
and jordan and syria
and lebanon and angola
and timor and rhodesia
and algiers and ethopia
and zaire and biafra
and congo and nicaragua
czechoslovakia and india
afghanistan and …
and …
and ..
and .
and

iran, el salvador, libya, beirut, sinai, falklands,
india, palestine, malaya, suez, kenya, borneo, aden, radfan, oman, dhofar, gulf , kosovo, sierra leone,
solomon is, bosnia, somalia, kuwait, iraq ….
