All my life I was fascinated by my dad’s camera which he would usually bring along when we went on one day-weekend trips or if there was a family event. My fascination became endless when I inherited his first camera, a Voigtländer Vito II at the age of 10; my major photo themes at that time were my class mates during school trips.
However, being a fully manual camera, my shots ranged from blur to not bad. However, all the tears shed when the shots were terrible had the advantage that it would tell me the lesson how to use shutter and aperture better each time under the instruction of my dad.
I discovered my second fascination in life, traveling, when I went on my first big journey, alone to Canada at the age of 16. This was also the time when I discovered that I was able to bring the world home to my family in the form of the photos I had taken during the journey.
Unfortunately it was not before the end of my student time at the age of 24 before I embarked to my next big journey, this time to Australia. Ever since traveling has not stopped and neither has photography with changing camera models along the way. What always remained was my aim to bring the world home; an inspiration which quickly took me beyond the typical tourist shots, and sparked my ambition.
Today, many journeys and a few photography courses later, my main focus is still on travel and people that I meet along the way. However, the camera has as well become a more frequent companion in my day-to-day journey and it is often simply the subject matter that inspires.
In terms of equipment, I only recently added a digital SLR, EOS40D, to my camera portfolio whereby my personal dedication is still with my analog SLR EOS300 and its lens AF28/300mm.
The huge number of negatives and images also recently inspired to a little local exhibition and it seems some more will follow.
