Oyster boat at Whitstable, Kent, England

  • FEATURED in Traditional Wooden Boats
  • FEATURED in Surrey and Kent

Oysters have been caught at Whitstable since Roman times and the town is still famous for its oysters. This old boat, now retired, lies behind a local restaurant with the same name and is now used as advertising for the restaurant.and as a reminder of the days when all fishing around England’s shores was done from small boats crewed by men with oars.

Moved to the Isle of Lewis in the The Outer Hebrides off the north-west coast of Scotland in July 2010 with the aim of getting out and about with my camera. Hasn’t quite worked out that way as we’ve spent the past 18 months refurbishing our house but the opportunities will come.

Meanwhile I’ll be going through my collection to pick out some of those that have pleased me over the years.
