FEATURED in From the Earth (03/13)
FEATURED in Table Top Photography
One of my collection of treasures from the earth.
Canon 40D

Note: So, that little geode has had quite a journey getting to us. Treasure it for its beauty, but also for its history and the complex composition of minerals that made it. You’re holding millions of years of work in your hand…enjoy touching the miracle of our earth’s creation.http://www.rocksandminerals4u.com/geodes.html

G’day, Heather! That’s a beautiful example, with its’ own unique character. I’ve seen many similar examples in museums and private collections and over here, I believe they are called “Thunder Eggs”. Supposedly because they are created by lightning striking a particular type of rock during a thunderstorm. Truth or legend? :)george

  • LOL! Total legend! I put a link in the description regarding the creating of geodes. They are volcanic rock “balls”, and various conditions create how much of a chrystaline formation there is inside and also the color determination. It is quite interesting actually!!
