A respected elder, asks for the blessing upon the Inter-Tribal Pow Wow held on the Barona Reservation, about 25 minutes from my house, in Southern California.September 2011

She told us that she has had a very difficult life, and she was honored to have been chosen to give this blessing

Aww, that’s so awesome! Marvellous capture, Heather! What a beautiful person, and a beautiful portrait! (That microphone really doesn’t fit in this image, lol – but what to do about that, isn’t it ;) )

  • Thanks and for the fav.. oh I agree about the microphone.. but her voice had to carry a distance … and if I remove it digitally what else can I put in her closed hand????

Oh, no, indeed, you couldn’t remove it! It’s just the reality of today , isn’t it – the contradiction of the authenticity of the indigenous people living in modern times, and the technology that goes with it…

  • Yes I agree it is a bit odd isnlt it! And quite inspiring though, to see them keep the traditions .. yet in their day to day life they are just modern day working folks. I met two men in ceremonial regalia, one was a Sociology Professsor, and the other worked in Probation!!
