This is a very meaningful image for me… dedicated to the artist, Marilyn Sunderman..R.I.P

Maya, our 7 month old is at home, recovering from her spay surgery. Here she is sitting on the top of the sofa, under a painting titled Going Home.
It was painted by my friend and internationally collected artist, Marilyn Sunderman, who passed away from a brief but horrific case of leukemia, in December 2000.

She lived in picturesque, inspirational Sedona, Arizona.
I visited her in the hospital in Flagstaff, just a few weeks before she left this planet. and she gave me a parting gift of this painting.

Marilyn was also the author of a very personal book titled Past Lives and Present Joy in which she shared her experiences of her past lives.
She had instructed friends to use this painting, Going Home as the image for the card given to everyone at her memorial, because she was in fact… “Going Home”.

Marilyn Sunderman provided works for the collections of such people as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Princess Al Sabah of Kuwait, former California Governor, Edmund Brown and His Excellence, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayid. She has had shows in major art capitals throughout the world. Ms. Sunderman passed away on December 8, 2000 from acute leukemia. Her family has established a Marilyn Sunderman Foundation that is affiliated with Yavapai College, Sedona AZ.

Thanks for reading. .

I am originally from Great Britain, and I live in San Diego with my 5 cats.

This is lovely! My sympathies about the cat in the painting;it’s never easy to lose a pet;I know from experience. Also, I almost lost one of my cats over the weekend after he fell on a barbed wire fence;luckily,he didn’t puncture any major arteries & after surgery is on the mend. Hope your spayed kitty is feeling better as well:-)
  • Thanks so much Robyn, .. luckily, the cat in the painting is not deceased.. the artist just created the painting from her imagination, …the cat was going home, and the artist, when she died, was also “going home”….

This is cool, it took me a second to realize what I was looking at as far as a painting or real life and then I realized it was both!

An excellent presentation and a touching dedication, Heather. My own Mother passed from the same disease. You are indeed honoured to have the original painting. “Get Well” wishes for Maya too! :) george

My apologies for mis-reading the description. That’s v.sad about the artist. She did a beautiful painting of your cat so a part of her lives on through her work:-)
