The Sisters of Mercy moment.

I don’t know why but whenever I hear a Sisters of Mercy song I have to go into a whole session of listening to their songs… today I am planning to listen to nothing but Sisters o’ Mercy.
I didn’t realise I liked them this much. Funny how things can creep up behind you and take you all unexpected isn’t it?

Strangely enough their music is great to exercise too. Especially the long versions of This Corrosion and Temple of Love, you just can’t help but dance… or maybe that’s just me. I love the 80s, even the bad music wasn’t that bad. Oh another band, Adam and the Ants oooh and Culture Club. Karma Chameleon indeed.

On Detonation Boulevard…
Through the angel rain
Through the dust and the gasolene
Through the cruelty of strangers
To the neon dream
Long distance information
Just tell me where the manholes steam
A little girl waits on my station
With a new machine
On Detonation Boulevard…
I got wrecked out here
In a Eldorado
I got wired, white-walled
This hot-wired sedan
I caught something weird in Encenada
I’ve a brother of sorts in Torquemada
Long distance information
Disconnect me if you can
On Detonation Boulevard…
Pink noise, white noise,
And a violet whining sound
It burns inside this car
No cops, no signs, no left, no right
No stops, no turning round
Well you can run but you can’t ride
You won’t get far
On Detonation Boulevard..
Bang Bang

On Detonation Boulevard…
Through the angle rain
Through the rust and the gasolene
Through the cruelty of strangers
To the neon dream
Long distance information
I’ll take the same
I got the fuel for the transformation
I’m a naked flame
On Detonation Boulevard…
Bang Bang

reptile house ep is the best uk goth record ever in my eyes- my copy is scatched to hell which adds to the feel – the cd version is too crisp and clean for me give me a old record any day

I’m a child of the CD unfortunately. I keep meaning to get into records, but I don’t have any turn tables or record players. Shame really.

Mmm…i’ve had many a Sisters of Mercy days….Love ‘em!!...although i saw them live a couple of years ago at the infamous Astoria gig in London….I say infamous coz it was quite possibly the worst Sisters gig on record…so much dry ice that you couldn’t see the band at all, then the smoke got into the sound system completely muffling the songs…the crowd were booing…anyway suffice to say my little group got drunk!!!

    Fields of the Nephilim….now there’s a band!!!!!

  • Hilton Briscoe replied

I have heard a few of The Sisters live cd’s and some bootlegs, I hadn’t actually heard of the infamous Astoria gig before, but it sounds like it was fun.

Damn right, the Neph are gods. Mourning Sun is one of my favourite albums by them, mostly cause o’ Straight to the Light. I fucking love that song.
