Driveway

This was a commission from friends to be a wedding present for their daughter. Its a painting of their driveway on their property which has been in the family a long time. The newly weds were moving into one of the two houses on the property and they thought that the painting would make a unique and fitting present. The painting hangs in their house like it has always meant to be there.
Acrylic on canvas board. 50cm x 70cm. 2007

How beautiful! I love the play of sunlight and shadow and how the driveway pulls you right into the heart of the picture. Wish I could paint like that! Great work, heartco!

Love the quality of light you captured here, it feels so warm and inviting. A very beautiful scene, and very symbolic I think.

A piece like this remains a treasure for always, especially when you live there.
Your driveway stands still in time, the real one changes. Your friends can always enjoy that moment in time you made for them. It’s beautiful.

Superb use of light and predominant two colours.
    Beautifully painted.

You should try this in watercolour as it would make an excellent subject with tht dappled light.

I realize every artist has their favorite medium and I enjoy your pencil illustration very much, but I can’t help to think as beautifully done as this is why I don’t see more acrylic landscapes. This truly is a gorgeous painting.

Thank you Jim :) The only answer I can come up with is that acrylic is not one of the ‘traditional’ mediums such as oil or watercolour. Acrylic is fairly new and being improved on constantly and perhaps its durability has yet to be proven. I just love how easy it is to use!

I love your dappling. And hey, acrylics are great and not so new now and you look like you’ve mastered them!
