Dragonfly
This picture was a commission I had to do. It took a fair bit of planning as the customer described the colours, oriental lean, etcetera that she wanted in the pic. So, with an old piece of blue fabric and a lot of research on dragonflies, I went to work. The entire piece is done in colour pencil, with white gouache and black ink details on mat board. 55cm x 55cm. 2005
Unfortunately lost to the Victorian Black Saturday fires 2009.
Has been featured in ‘Pencil Drawing’, ‘Coloured Pencil Art’ and ‘Painters in Modern Times’ groups.

Thankyou Firedrake. Drawing in such detail you soon begin to realize there is NOTHING random in nature. Nature is made up of symmetry, balance and method (amongst other things) So the wings had to be carefully studied, planned and sketched for this picture :)

Perhaps not embarrass, but I do feel….um, hard to explain really. I feel the art I do, or the talent I have is definitely a gift. It is something I am MEANT to do. It heals me and brings joy to others, I dont feel I can take all the credit for this. (but thank you!) :)

I’ve commented on this before, but it’s even better at the second viewing. I just spotted that it is 55cm x 55cm … is this your usual size in drawing? I only use A4, but have bought an A3 display book, so I am currently plucking up the courage to do my first A3 picture …. I’d imagine more fine detail could be managed with larger sizes … am I correct? By the way, nice to see you include details of the picture … I wish everyone else did.

Thank you. The people did get out safe and unharmed…..with only the clothes they wore. As they were escaping….watching their horse jumping through the flames, but nothing they could do lest they lose their own lives. When they returned to their…..nothing, they found their horse, a bit burnt, but alive and well. I feel a sense of loss that the picture has gone. But I cry, every time, when I think of the people who have lost so much more. I struggle with the thoughts for those souls. God bless them xo
