Condemned by

In 1692 New England, villagers were swept up in a mass hysteria that eventually cost dozens of innocent lives. A group of young girls claimed to be tormented by several citizens, whom they accused of witchcraft. As a result, the Puritan villagers flew into a panic, imprisoning, hanging and torturing their own neighbors.

Rebecca Nurse was a well respected member of the community. Described as a model of Christian behavior, the public was shocked at the charges against her. Accused of being a witch, she responded “I have got nobody to look to but God.” At 71 years old, she was hanged.

Painted digitally in Corel Painter.
