Jupiter temple – Baalbek – Lebanon

The city of Baalbek a sanctuary in the Lebanon mountains since phoenician times (3rd mill. BC) became very important during hellenistic and roman period. The hudge religious complex still visible dates back from the 1rst century AD.
The 22 m high columns of the Jupiter temple are the highest still preserved of the antique world.

(Baalbek is a site on the World Heritage list of Unesco)
