Joyful daffodils in oil

Hugh Cross

Carey Bay, Australia

Artist's Description

And yes, these were beside the lake, beneath the (large neighbour’s) trees when I painted them on Daffodil Day in 2011.

This was the second in my inaugral “spring flower” series (at least that’s what they’ll say when I am dead and famous…) and only my 5th oil. They were so delightful that I bought two bunches at work and raced home after work to paint them that night. And by 1am the next morning they were done. Sadly lacking is the intended dropped flower on the table to balance the composition – I sort of chickened out, particularly as the paint on the table cloth was deep and wet, like late spring snow – and that ain’t easy to paint on I discovered.
