I bought this thinking of Frisco, Texas, but it is more likely that this World War two sailor meant San Francisco! I don’t always know who took the pictures I buy at auction. Most of them come from estates and sometimes the combined leftovers of estates. I surmise that auctioneers get to the end and find a box of negatives in the back of the closet. I buy these negatives, often badly damaged, and together with my team restore them to their full original grandeur. Since they are mostly medium or large size negatives they enlarge quite well.
Today’s army of digital photographers can snap just about anything and claim they are “photographers.” But they can’t travel back in time. I can. I find the lost negatives and bring them back to life.
