This is so precious Barbara . . . the mama and all your babies each have a different expression, just like in real life, we are unique . . . just like your art!! Outstanding artistry!
Thanks so much, Ruth. You’re a pal. This was a family of barn cats I discovered and fed just after the momma, I named Vixen, gave birth. She’d dug a tunnel under the boards at the foot of the stairs (inside that led to the loft) where she had and kept the babies. She never trusted me. But one of her daughters, I named Vanguardinia, and I fell in love. Heartbroken I couldn’t take them with me when I went west, all too feral, and a close family. I wrote about it in my short stories, The Gandy Dancer; they’re in the one called “Vanguardinia.”
Really precious Barbara . . . makes me love this piece even more after reading your story . . .
Thanks again, Ruth. I don’t think I realized just how much pleasure would come from sharing my adventures with animals here, and I know how many of your own you have had, how important animals have been in your life. You’ve done so much to add to my experience on this site, and I thank you for it, friend.
