Wild Blue Daisies, Caught in Dust Storm
Oil on Canvas
It only rains two or three months out of the year, though flowers bloom year round the first real punch of color is when the intense sun hits saturated land and everything that’s waited pops out of the soil. The air’s still turbulent, dust storms in the prairies and meadows sweep into the mountains, and head for the ocean.

You have such expressive brush stroke and such vibrant colors, so full of life. I feel like I’m repeating myself when I review your work but I do love it. I love the warmth in this, even the cool colors and shadows hold warmth. Beautiful!

Your brush strokes bring the flowers to life Barbara . . . colours so deep and rich . . . truly beautiful . . .
Barbara Sparhawk
Thank you Sande. Thank you Ruth. I really like seeing the paint have its own life. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, color makes me drool. I’m sure there’s a cure for that but I’m not looking. For painters who haven’t discovered it, there’s an electrifying blue called Konigsblau or King’s Blue. Made by several oil paint companies, Rembrandt & Sennelier do the best. It leans into violet just enough to make you gasp for air. For photographers, blue when orange heading to yellow gray is next to it will strenghten it’s punch. You all know this already.

Just beautiful makes me smile :D

Thanks bites. So nice to read that.

I can experience and enjoy the love of nature through your painting and writing and I am rejuvenated by the beauty and magic. Van Gogh captured the wind, the rain and the sun beating down, the crows flying over and his great passion and truth still lives.
Barbara Sparhawk
Nicely stated, Rosepepper, and a wonderful complement. Thank you for what you wrote about my work.
Antanas
beautiful work and nice colors, well done
Barbara Sparhawk
Thank you Antanas! You make me smile.

An amazing work – puttig the dasies against the storm like that – and showing the result – is really effective. The way the highest flower is being blown – gets me right there
Helene Kippert
Love the dramatic sky Barbara
Barbara Sparhawk
Thank you Helene. I’m very fond of violent weather.

Thank you mare! I really think plants respond in a thrill over wild days, as long as damage doesn’t happen it must be extraordinary, like humans standing on a beach before a hurricane feeling the planet’s surface move.

Hi, Barbara, I’m glad to come back, and to see such wonderful paint on your profile! Your writing is amazing too – if I had your talent, I would write books!!!
Barbara Sparhawk
You ARE writing. And must keep at it, along with your painting which is equally original.
And thanks for what you’ve said to me.

midnightdreamer
such a beautiful piece!!
Barbara Sparhawk replied
Thank you for saying that, midnightdreamer (lovely name). I watch these things pop out of brown earth, spindly stems, green leaves then WHAMMO! color to die for.
Sharon Perrett
Stunning, gorgeous colours and beautifully painted
Barbara Sparhawk
Again, Sharon, thanks, you’re too kind. I’d never seen this particular variety before, and just couldn’t believe the color that started appearing. Unfortunately they die back in winter (very short here) but the good news is, I do believe spring started today. All the little buds are popping their noses into the wind to check.
Alan Findlater
