I can't hear you. Pen, ink, pencil
It always seems to come to this.
What goes wrong in the opulent possibility of love making everything so right.
If two people can really foster innovation in each other, help and not hinder one another, it’s rare and it’s beautiful. We all need more opening up (on a daily basis if possible) and less shutting down—we do enough of that all by ourselves.
I used to tend bar, and saw a lot of this between couples. Even had that pose and thought once or twice myself.

Ulrikeart
wonderful expression, beautiful work…......................
Barbara Sparhawk replied
Thank you Ulrikeart. It’s a moment of retreat, and wrong for that. We need to step up to the plate and plunge in when challenged. Confrontation is always good.

Great place to work for an artist…you have caught that moment of shut down beautifully. The mark making is superb -the direction lines capturing the planes perfectly. Melancholy on the woman’s face says it all, the revisiting of an unwanted familiar feeling. I think you are right about shutting down too often and withdrawing.
Barbara Sparhawk replied
Thanks rosepepper, for your continued fine insights and encouragement. Yes, bars are just an overwhelming abundance of face and mood and body language.
Lori Peters

Barbara Sparhawk replied
Thank you so much, Antanas! And now that I think about it, it reminds me in a way of some of your faces of women, lost in thought.

Lol, how true is that.

too often words we say, even words of love, are just noise. true love is hearing without listening.yours is a very good illustration of this statement.
Barbara Sparhawk replied
Very pretty words, and heartfelt, Nikolay. My thanks.

Barbara, you`ve so hit the nail on the head when it comes to defining love between two people. You can`t ever undersestimate the power of fostering innovation in a love relationship… it`s what keeps the love dynamic. Otherwise it can stagnate and the relationship goes nowhere. Which is when you see two people doing what you`ve so eloquently portrayed here. And why would we hinder if we are in love? You have such awesome vision and understanding of human nature. And you draw good!
Marion Chapman
oh, such sadness in this piece. great drawing.
Barbara Sparhawk replied
Many thanks, Marion. I felt that when I did it, a very quietly internalized heartbreak.
