  • Thanks Nicholas… Originally got the idea when I was in a pub in Germany & took picture of a lightbulb there, liked the pic but thought it could be improved… Back home I remembered I had an old large lightbulb with a screw fitting that came out of a Railway signal box… I set this bulb up on a piece of wood & wired it up with a dimmer switch borrowed from my living room.! Experimented with various settings & backgrounds untill I was satifisfied.. Adjusted in photoshop.. The different colours in my other versions of this pics was obtained by selecting the filament in photoshop with the lasso tool & adjusting the hue & saturation slider… Hope this helps.. Rob

    Thanks for that, Rob. A dimmer switch! Of course. I often photograph incandescent lights. And those old bulbs (like yours) have interesting formed glass inside. Neon lights have a lot of potential too, they’re quite abstract when viewed almost side on.
