Night time storm has made its mark

Went to bed amongst the quiet
With a start I heard the riot
Eyes wide open and aware
To every sound I did scare
As the noises had caught me napping
How I did not hear the raven flapping?

Then I saw a shadow moving
In the dark the spectre looming
Looked up upon the ceiling
Only to find the phantoms reeling
With every moment the terror rising
My resolve there slowly prising

Close my eyes, head under covers
Remember the embrace of lost lovers
Recap my life and say my prayers
Ready to face the ghostly stares
Regained resolve, I look back
There still reeling but no attack

Hours pass with both sides waiting
I laid still, they kept baiting
Heavy lids finally lead to slumber
I awoke and from bed did lumber
Looking round for my nightmares
I surmised there in their lairs
Night time storm had made its mark
But day has come and it was all a lark

I re read this poem and am still in awe of the themes and structure. I know I will never reach those heights but hope you enjoy my little poem.

    Love it. I love Poes Raven and yes, this reminds me of it so much. Excellent.
