Only snow knows

...the way
of my love.

The calling of the familiar;
how it glides,
waiting tears brimming
from it’s cusp towards
the needy earth
yearning
to be siphoned,
to become one with,
and nothing to,
the black unfiltered
soil

and back again
by way of mist,
secretly climbing spring arbors
fluent
in the language of wild roses,
yet rendered dumb if noticed
by the eyes of clouds;
(keeping the confidence of sun)

flakes of self falling upwards,
transposed into the ether
that bore them, cold;
systematically perfect,
(are we not all perfect for our purpose?)

falling gently or striking furiously
upon the winds
of another’s journey.

Only snow knows where i’ve been,
the beds i’ve nurtured;

only snow
and every silent touch upon numb skin,
crystals upon crystals echoing ages
of unwritten beauty
could ever hold
my love

as
it
was

    this poem is so touching, and true. Your imagery and metaphors of natural forces says so much about the learning the process of love. I think the entire poem works really well, but these lines stood out for me:
    Only snow knows where i’ve been,
    the beds i’ve nurtured;

    the metaphor says a lot about how we can’t always judge progress, it is written in the transient forces of nature. also like the beginning of poem and tears falling towards dark soil-the water cycle of our humanity.. beautiful piece.

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

    Thank you, Jane. I love you taking the time to dig deep into the poetry. :)

    we are all perfect for our purpose – but, like you, i reject such a purpose. i choose love instead – though the moon may pursue me, i will keep him at bay with my strategic stillness, and try to gaze without flinching into the face of love as it was intended. beautiful kristin!

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

    And therein lay the paradox we have set before us at the table of All and Everything, where all the guests are dead.
    Strategic stillness…exactly. standing strong in the face of a hurricane while wearing the barely audible smile of a mountaintop monk.
