48 Laws and Nobody’s Home: A Working Pupil’s Poetic Lament – tanka sequence
Tanka sequence on why I bother continuing to write poetry when there are others who can convey the great secrets so much better than I.
48 Laws and Nobody’s Home: A Working Pupil’s Poetic Lament – tanka sequence belongs to the following groups:
! Creative Writing & Poetry !, "Poetry and Beautiful Women" , All Out Emotion, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Anger Management, Core [C.O.R.E], Creative, Talented, and Unknown, Everyday Life, Inspired By Life, Masterpieces: Literary Workshop, The Art of Pain, The beauty of poetry, THE SISTERHOOD, Up & Coming Writers, Vibration in Art and Verse - VAVoom! and WMGi’m lost as to what
words want from the likes of me.
i’m just not that good.
clearly, there’s been some mistake;
why choose a ghost to scribe truth
in alien ink?
why grate my hands through ether,
sifting through sky-bones
inhaling their dry secrets,
if their boats will bring no rain?
what good is a gift
if no man will accept it?
perhaps I should write
only for the barking stars
who wish for 48 hands
instead of trying
to throw light at rotting moons
as they shake their heads?
better I save my thunder
for the one who seeks no rain.
why write secret words
that vex their senses with sand;
or blister their eyes
with too many holy suns,
when I could just…not?
perhaps I will leave
these most misunderstood words
at the green earth’s feet;
watch her braid riddles with roots,
while slipping the moon to moles.

All I have to say is another wow…thank you for writing how I feel after reading your work..instead of trying
to throw light at rotting moons
as they shake their heads?
better I save my thunder
for the one who seeks no rain.
Can I get these lines for my next write?....this is just terrific poetry and just so that you know…I have never read anyone who wrote about turbalance(sp) or the soul of a tree and it resonated with me after i left..just thought you should know..one love
Kristin Reynolds replied
Chris! lol I appriciate that, but…well…for whatever reason, I just don’t get it, I guess. As you may have seen, I have a very hard time with believing in my “gifts”.
anyway, ignore me!
I say thank you from my heart and give you a big smootch for being so kind and real all the time!!! xoxoxo
P.S- thanks…for the tree and turbulance…:) xo

Writer share this lament all the time, but you Kristin share in the glory as well. I will sit you down and explain why should not frown. When I am done, and we have had our fun. You will go back out there, and show us why we should care. xox
Kristin Reynolds replied
O.K…that sounds good, but my tenacity for subborness usually beats all. lol
BUT…please, I beg you, try. I’d love to believe in myself, continually, without breaks, for the rest of my lives.
if you can do that? please, do. :)
Christie Moses
Oh K well you know you are MY hero so I truly don’t believe anyone does the poetic secrets better than you.
that having been said, this one is so awesome. Mainly because its so hard for me to even write one tanka let alone a series. One with such amazing descriptions as this…? Probably not ever so I guess this poetic lament could be me when i read YOU :)
Love you brilliant lady XOXO
Kristin Reynolds replied
Miss Christie, that is very sweet of you to say. :) You are a good friend whom I’d love to hug tightly right now. :)
love you too, beautiful. xoxox thank you.

Show me a poet who can write about losing hope in writing…losing faith in her/his craft…about writer’s block…about losing belief in one’s worth in self expression and I’ll show you a poet whose words resonate to the very fingers and hearts of all poets. I fear you fail to see the irony here. You have written a most remarkable piece of writing about giving up writing! Compare yourself by all means to others, if that’s your wont, but not to the detriment of losing
your special access to the great secrets.
Kristin Reynolds replied
:) I thank you for seeing irony here; that means alot!
I have a hard time not comparing, aside so much talent. my self esteem is so low, most days I have to get out my pocket knife and scrape little bits off the ground just to look myself in the mirror.
I have a feeling my access to the great secrets will never stop….it is the relaying of them or not relaying of them that confuses me much of the time.
a paradox – that’s my home. :)
thank you for indulging me.

guess ya just cant stop
and we wouldnt want ya too :)

Kristin Reynolds replied
As long as your listening, I can keep my stereo on MAX (you know, the white with red writing max button) and crank that shizzat loud. lol
thanks, you. you rule, spazzy magee! (sorry…that just popped out.) lol

many will listen and many may shake thier heads, such is the grain of the universe,
But it is the rose in the vacant lot that blooms at the sound of your words that makes the ‘many’ irrellivent and makes the painful flow of umnmasked truth that comes through worth bearing for the moment before it is released….to stop passing it on would be tragic, as the rose would wilt and perish…so please, keep it coming, besides its how you roll
Kristin Reynolds replied
Ah yes…The Rose.
How could I forget about her and her bright, swirling sun?
the perfect thing to say to me here, for that I say thank you.
But as for that last part…must you? really? always something nice then something not.

You are a gem. xxx

Powerful words! YOU give the great secrets life, images and more. You are perfect in poetic expression. xoxo
Kristin Reynolds replied
You don’t think I already know that??? Shit.
that’s the whole point of the damn poem, jerky! lol
Thank you Cass for the perfect…I’m sure you understand how that makes me feel. like an imposter, but thank you for believing in me all the same. you are a beautiful friend, filled with laughter and kindness. :) xoxox

only ghosts live in the world of 48 laws – you know that already – the hand of others cannot reach here. and so it falls to ghosts to scribe whatever truth whose feeble light can filter through to this domain. truths about the food of the moon and ropes whose ends can only be grasped by jumping. but kristin – friend of my essence – if even one person listens you will have repaid part of your debt to nature. and people are listening – i am listening.
Kristin Reynolds replied
Yes, you know I know.
but, I must admit that sometimes my feet feel sooo good, so comfortable, so secure within the topsoil (you know, when the sun hits it just right), it is as if the earth is singing to only me, a lullaby in the most beautiful root-voice, and I begin to fade like an old photograph on fast forward; or a hologram with a loose plug, flickering in and out (here/gone/here/gone). and if the song is sung when I am especially sleepy, out I go, a ghost within a beam of sun.
Thank goodness for the dark clouds and rolling thunder! startling me from dreams, turning my shadow back to a silver fish in the sky; shocking me back awake.
This poem was written while indulging in the warm, soft sunlight; my feet digging into earth.
Thank you for bringing the thunder to my page every darn time. :)
