360 Degrees and Counting

My pattern rarely holds
its shape

Lines intersecting circles,
stamens poking ovums
as the grass
cheers on.

There are the days of just lines,
like floating downstream
through the open side
of dreams.

Some days I am
all angles,
unrelenting in their need.
There is little comfort here.
Just elbows off tables
and knees polishing
wood floors –
the banging together
of seams.

Then come the dark dire days
of the death box.
When I am
the heavy space
between
4 stone walls;
secure in my square.
Safe
and haunted
by the cracks
in the mortar.

Other days

I am just one circle.
A swirl of white smoke
from a shaman’s pipe
during an endless dance
of healing;
a dreamtime flower
divisible only
unto itself.

But,
it is on the days
my circle multiplies –
when it does
what comes naturally

when it does not think
just does,
when I become
every
last thing.

Then I remember;
forgetting
I was ever 180 degrees

and sweltering,
writhing
beneath churning humus;
molding
beneath frozen fault lines
of indivisible
laws –

dead as a discarded flower.

    Kristin,
I was drawn to the title, because usually on an annual basis, I do a ‘360 excercise’. I ask those closest to me to answer a few simple questions and provide me comments… so I may compare who I might think I am, with some of the outward perceptions of who I am.

I really enjoyed reading this, and have felt at time, what you have articulated here.

    Thank you for sharing,
    Glenn

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

    Hey fellow Canuck!
that sounds like a great practice.
    thank you, Glenn,

I feel this sense of moving and feeling good and then a little shard of the past, an unkindness grates us…it may not even be directed at us…somedays we lift the covers and we are naked and we find no scars…other days we want to put an armor on with no idea why…Well we do know but we try and soldier on and push it away. I see we are a big supermarket inside some days and some things on the shelf have really gone way over their expiry date….and some shelves are not re-stocked…Oh and some shelves are stocked with all the ingredients for the finest meals… OH and don’t forget the days when we think we may have to put things on sale cos seems no-one is interested in buying unless we bring down the value… I am babbled enough me thinks.
This is distinctively clever prose and crafted that it was a pleasure to read….even though the subject matter did have for me some little dark corners…but hey I got a flash light..XXX

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

you are, once again, exactly right. some days…some days…some days…life is about change, and riding the changes until we are yet again, another change waiting to happen until we are solid core-beings. well…at least that’s my goal.
my on sale shelf is pretty full. perhaps it’s time for a blue light special – EVERYTHING MUST GO!
thanks, KS, you always know what to say! xoxo

Incredible writing. You are brilliance, and I don’t say that lightly. I am just one circle.

    a dreamtime flower

everyone said it all. brilliant as your writing awes us. opens our minds even to discovering places we’ve been but could not quite come out with the right words to explain it, as you have. xoxoxo

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

Shar, again, you are too kind to me, but that’s what i love about you (not your compliments…althought those are very nice, too. lol) – your heart!
    xoxox thanks, Shar-lady. xoxo

  • Erika .

    Erika .

I agree with Shar. You seem to have a way to capture and express the intangible (i know I’ve said it before) but it’s completely true and I’ll keep saying it. This poem is further proof of that. Your writing gives shape to the shapeless, and you mold your thoughts into words – the words we so often can’t quite grasp, or the spaces our minds tread that we can’t explain. Finding the right words is the lifelong task of the writer, but you seem to have it down, and what a fine writer you are dear K. Love you. xxx

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

You too are so kind to me, I am smiling like a child, thanks you sweet Ericka. :) xoxox

my friend you write such truth. to lose one’s weight and become a circle – holding all inside without judgement, with impartiality. truly there is the experience of life there and nowhere else. but we forget, and forget we have forgotten, layers of forgetting so impenetrable that only greater and greater shocks can peel them off. better to be the shaman’s smoke than the discarded flower. and i wish this for you my lovely lady, to be the smoke more often and for longer. x

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

    :)
I have written more than few poems on weight the dark mass of earth’s laws; trying to push us into her soil until we are rock.
you are so true, J! the cycle of forgetting is a near impossible thing to break free of. perhaps someday i will find that place of all circle all the time. but the shocks of which you speak…yes, i know very well about these. good thing my training started very young, my centers had some realtime, child mind, free space, no thought war-training, with scars to remind me how far I’ve come, how close to light and how far, once again; readying this one as much as possible for the holy war.
I will see you on the top of each wave, and we can high five as we roll…sound good? :)
thanks you for your wishes, I wish the same for you. xo

    yup. one of a kind= good. :)
I’m so glad you think i’m acute one, lord knows it’s better then obtuse. lol

There is one thing that you will never be accused of for sure: that is simply existing. K, you live every moment with a quiet intensity, which keeps me in awe of you. You are my infinite; the strongest impetus to live whom I have ever met. How in the hell did I get so dogdamn lucky? Let’s LIVE! I love you; this is-you know of my reluctance to use this word-pure brilliance, as are you! I adore you, beautiful girl! Me

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

:) yes well…i just existed for a very long time, more of my life than not…that time is done. fini! no more. no way. the time to live is now, and it will be done.
I’ll take the word brilliance and say a mighty thank you for it.
Thank you, sweet man, for allowing me to live.
    love, K xo
