The Sculptor and the Sculpted

Your hands
are like archaic
marble sculptures,

(twice the size of my own;
my hands are so small, you’d hardly know
they carry the weight of the world)

no matter what you are doing,
they weave
the lines of their disjointed time
into my own;
while casting sunlit shadows
across my smiling face.

Place them upon my cheeks
so I may know the meaning
of tender…

Run them through my hair
so I may remember the meaning
of childlike contentment…

Glide them down
my weighted shoulders
so I may feel the hard of life lifted
like so much smoke and mirrors…

Run your poetic fingers across my parted lips
so I may know the true meaning
of opening up to another…

And when your hands rip off my chains,
and come
to rest
within
my newly
discovered
freedom,

touch my heart,
while counting the years
upon creation’s fingers,

knowing that I have searched
for only,
you.

Feel my lips then;
holding you the way a sculptor
holds his most brilliant creation,

and watch as the rest of the world
crumbles…

    Like a dance of intentions,
    conversations on love…
    upon the love that we feel…
    the sculptor is your mind…..
    and the poet is your love….
    again…
    looking for what is eternal,
    among two hearts,
    beyond time,
    beyond flesh.
    Rosa (wonderful and extremely lyrical….It has driven me trotting along your demanding phrases of such a sweetness that my pupils kept of widenning and widenning…)

    I love that you’ve referred to crumble in such a soul-affirming way – it is a word I adore, but it usually makes me sad that it is associated with decay and deterioration. My other favourite lines:
    Feel my lips then;
    holding you the way a sculptor
    holds his most brilliant creation,

    Gorgeous K, pure poetry!!!
    Love Deb xoxo

  • Kristin Reynolds replied

    thank you so much, Ms Debbie! I love that word, too. Crumble, to me, can mean so many things, like so many words…man, do i love words! lol the possibilities are endless! xo
