Through the Glass, of Valhalla
A poem dedicated to my beautiful, Goddess of a mother who died tragically when she was young (26) , long story, and all she taught me of life through her tragic death and sacrifice.
This is a poem written from her perspective in italics, her words to me…at least, those are the things she taught me…
I love you, Mum. :)

I can see myself more clearly,
here…”
A Valkyrie goddess –
gold and pink,
with the heart of a dying child;
eternal blue eyes that
sparkled
like laughter on the verge
of tears;
a vast ocean, the color of the lost,
The broken,
The healer,
The needing to be healed;
the color of angel’s breath, blown
upon a world
not quite ready…
“Don’t you see?
You have proven yourself
mine…
But further than I wept;
further than I reached;
further than I allowed you to see;
further than my breath could
find me.
The mark of this window bleeds
golden,
as you are,
and as you exude upon the glass
that catches you looking –
light through refraction –
a spectrum
of what was given;
what the old ones
revered, feared and sought,
is what you possess;
my warm golden,
through glass halls.
The rainbow that broke me,
that captured and enraptured me;
that left me (for you –
all for you)
is the gift
my finiteness breathed
upon the pane
of not to be (not for me)
my gift to you
is molten sun;
the lost color of my hair ablaze
within its sheen –
of the blue that saw you (saw for you)
from memory
and forgotten songs
of those gone days,
alive through your aperture.
Come to the window and see my reason –
(the sun through glass)
can you see me there?
You can always see
more clearly
here.”
Framed within the transom,
a Valhalla goddess on the verge
of the heaven (and the love)
of this brilliant
manifestation,
breathing upon the glass
she was given,
lighting the halls
of Valhalla.

“Come to the window and see my reason –”
love sandra
Kristin Reynolds replied
Thank you, Sandra. This one, like all the ones about my mother are very hard to write, so it means alot others feel something for it, too . :)

As she looks back at you from that window from within the enormous Valhalla hall….with other battle heroes ….what an amazing analogy of your mothers laying down of her life. And her will lighting it…..I imagine this filled you with the mix of that double edged sword writing this… I get the feeling you have the same heroic blood in you…X
Kristin Reynolds replied
thank you so much, KarenSue…laying down her life; lighting my way, is exactly what she did. Double-edged sword indeed, and oh, how it hurts so good.
Thank you so much, my dear, she doubled my battery the days she left…making me stronger so I wouldn’t end up like her. No way. This girl is steel. :) thanks to her. and thanks to you for your beautiful comment, love, K xx

To be able to see into the Halls of Valhalla is a tremendous gift which you shared so beautifully. Valhalla awaits you and will welcome you at your end. Stay brave.
Kristin Reynolds replied
Thank you JR. :) It is my Swedish heritage and ancestry allowing me access, I think. ;) my mother was definatly qualified for Valkyrie status, she was a battle maiden, goddess. thank you so much, love, K xxx
Kristin Reynolds replied

This is so beautiful and sad, Kristen. You must have been very young for she was very young when she died. I’m glad that what she taught you stayed in your mind. Mine died 12 years ago when she was 62 due to complications of diabetes. But, everytime I look out the window and see her house next to mine, I will first look at the glass window to think of her and see if I see her there as you see yours. Thank you Kristen, for showing me another way of looking out for my mother and envisioning her near me. Iris love ya
Kristin Reynolds replied
thank you sweet Iris. :) yes, i was 7.
I am so glad you saw something in this poem that reminded you of your mum (I’m so sorry, by the way…losing a mother is…well..no words to explain)
love, Kristin :)

Thanks you, Lina. :) I don’t know about the goddess on my part, but she certainly was at that. man, she was gorgeous and ambodied so much light, you could barely look at her. those kind of souls never stay here long, do they? how can they, they are not of this world. xxx
