A Penny Saved
Ouch. This was a hard poem to write, a hard poem to have to write. It is about living with a soul-sucker, when all you’ve ever wanted and dreamed about was love.
A Penny Saved belongs to the following groups:
! Creative Writing & Poetry !, "Poetry and Beautiful Women" , All Out Emotion, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Core [C.O.R.E], Everyday Life, Masterpieces: Literary Workshop, The Art of Pain, The beauty of poetry, Up & Coming Writers and WMGIf I have learned anything from this monumental debacle,
it is how to economize. Harvesting smiles is not something
to be taken lightly – they are too fragile for wasteful hands,
liable to scream upon contact; forced to eek out their own
existence by crawling beneath the gray skin of hiding; burrowing
through palms like some alien parasite desperate to save
its vanishing race; sliding through veins like a numb-stricken
mouse, muscling its way to the black mambas pulsing gut; biting
its way past slumping shoulders (eating and spitting out that
which tries to bite first) straight to the heart (I say heart for lack
of a better word; perhaps blood pumping organ would suit
just as well) resting there between ventricles, smiling into your
clogged chambers, meeting your fate with the white teeth of
infrequency, while feeding your excess with one last small kiss,
then fading like a tepid spring sun behind rising black clouds
preparing the autumn firmament, for your last reckless squall.
Starving, I will kiss your palms with the live lips of pennies –
stamping you expendable. I’ve been saving them just for this.
