Debby Haskard-Strauss

Adelaide, AUSTRALIA

My professional artistic life began after art school in 1987. I freelanced as an illustrator and worked from a few studios around Adelaide with some other artists and designers. Back then it was Alfrescos, the Austral, the Exeter and ofcourse work, lots of deadlines but very social.
These days my work is much more varied and life is a blend of chaos and discipline – community arts projects, papier mache sculptures, banners and wall designs, I teach art to adults and children and continue to create my own artwork mainly within the mediums of painting and printmaking.
I like to express the fun and happiness of life and am inspired by everyday experiences as well as the beauty and ruggedness of our Australian nature, landscape, wild life and life style. I love colour and music, and long to achieve the same kind of freedom and spontaneity as a young child does, when given a paint brush and palette.
I’m a founding member of T’Arts, Textile & Arts Collective, an artist run shop and gallery opened in 2004 www.tartscollective.com.au and Bittondi Printmakers Association Inc. We have a workshop available to members to use and we run various printmaking workshops throughout the year.
