Thank you Delonte. I appreciate your comment. I don’t recommend drawing with charcoal and graphite on stretched canvas, but it worked out okay this time.
Thanks. The Foo Dogs are done in charcoal, the rest is done in pencil. I added a slight tent to the buildings in the background with colored pencil. For some reason, the photo ended up with a pink background which isn’t on the original.
Thank you. It took me a long time to realize that you shouldn’t study dark-light, figure-ground, optical illusions, and visual composition to fool the eye into making large things appear small, light things to appear dark, straight things to appear crooked, and all of those other wonderful things, but rather to make strong look REALLY strong – soft look soft – straight look straight, etc. Your eye will fill in details that don’t exist, and that is okay. But my goal is to try and eliminate ambiguity.
