The red bloom of Cladonia ochrochlora as it grown in the rich, deep moss on a creek bank atop an old stump. This location is near the head of Quartzville Creek about thirty miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon.

Ohhhh what an awesome set of lichens! Cladonia species are often so showy and this is no exception! Lucky that you have this in your area….the only ones of this family I’ve seen in Kansas tend to be brown or a brownish/purple in color. This image is so beautiful with all the life, perspectiv (the lichens look as tall as the treese!), color, textures…just every bit of it makes me want to look more and more
