A Course of His Own

Another gloomy night for the sleepless, lonely dreamer.
Though he puts on a smile, his world keeps getting meaner.
Like a dark, lonesome alley, his life appears to be,
He tries to understand it, but he just cant see
That the life he dreams of living is a universe away.
Hopes and reality have gone their separate ways.
He’s fighting a fight that he just can’t win.
Sooner or later he’s gonna have to give in.

Misery and apathy, depression and rage.
He’s trying to write a book, but there’s words on the page.
We all try to be different, but we’re really the same
Everybody feels love, anger, and pain.
This poem/song/story doesn’t have a happy ending.
As a matter of fact, it’s only the beginning
Of a life that we’re all still trying to find,
An answer to the questions that are burning in our minds.

So if you find yourself lost, afraid, and all alone,
There’s no need to worry, you’re gonna find your way home.
Just take a step forward, and don’t look back.
Don’t follow anybody, just stay on the path.
We all have a different road that we have to walk.
Sometimes they’re easy, but they’re usually not.
So if you want to find peace and you want to understand
Just where your life is taking you and where it’s gonna end.
Then keep your feet on the path and your eye on the horizon
And wherever you’re headed, you’re soon to be arriving.
