This is part of the monument at Greenwood Cemetery that was created to honor the 6 million Jews who were slaughtered during the Holocaust, and of those 6 million, approximately 1 million were children.
Being born Jewish, this place had a lot of meaning for me. Luckily, none of my family were caught up in the Nazi mess – we were all already in the USA by the time the war started. But to see the names of some of these children and then their ages – 5, 7, 10 – it nearly broke my heart. I heard children screaming and crying in my Bluetooth as soon as I stepped inside the monument’s walls. I had to remove the BT – it was picking something up that I didnt want to hear. As I left the monument, I began to weep, for the children, for all of those innocent people who did nothing more that lived their lives as Jews, only to be slaughtered by the most evil being that has ever walked this world. The tears didnt stop until I was back in my car, leaving this place.
