Last Tuesday (July 19) I was lucky enough to catch two bees working diligently together on one flower bloom. I guess they were way to busy foraging for pollen to worry about me (I was about 2" from them) snapping their photo. Again, I have a phobia with the creepy-crawlies, so its a triumph that I was able to get so close to these two little guys. Hazzah! :)

    Gorgeous image & work

  • Thank you Martina!! I could have gotten closer (I mean the camera could have gotten closer) but since I was operating it, this is as close as I would get to these creatures. I am DEATHLY afraid of any insect that stings (not to mention, very allergic). I like the flower work a lot too – I was trying to make the flower look a little “dreamlike, wispy” – and as long as Buzz and Buzz, Jr were busy, I was ok with being this close to them.

Terrific closeup! I applaud you for your bravery! lol You should enter this in the Bees group. I think there are a couple.

  • Thank you Sheryl, it was HARROWING. This is not something I enjoyed in the least – and editing the pic – bringing it up to a 250% zoom, well that creeped me out just about as much as a human can GET creeped out. LOL (Last weekend I took some great shots of the cicada’s I was able to shoot during the daytime, but when I went to edit the pics, I just couldnt look at them without getting the willies, so I had to trash all 3 pics.LOL – I know – I really need to get over that.)
Oh, and I found the only BEE group I could find, and joined it. :) Thanks for the 411 on that!

Cicadas are my biggest fear. My brother used to chase me with them when we were young. He’d try to throw them on me so I really freak out big time if I come across any. This year was the seven year cicada outbreak and it was the worst anyone’s ever seen. The air was literally thick with them. I couldn’t get out of the car and then one got in the car with us and talk about having a full on panic attack! We had to stop the car until my husband finally found it and got it out. Those and grasshoppers are my biggest creepies.
