WE WILL NEVER FORGET

AND A TEAR FELL

Twin brothers reaching for the sky
Holding on to each other
Holding to each other’s hand
Proudly
Standing tall
Mortally wounded, bleeding smoke and fire
Trying hard not to fall.

Death and destruction is in the air
Our minds are in disbelief
Heavy at heart and filled with grief
Gripped in disbelief and despair
As we hold hands in our darkest hour
As we realize this is too painful to bear

AND A TEAR FELL. IT WAS HEARD AROUND THE WORLD

And then came our heroes
The firemen, paramedics, policemen
The passengers in the sky
To do their part
They would fight for their brothers lives
They would stay by their side
Even though they knew deep in their hearts
That in doing so they were also going to die.
Yes, they died while holding hands of their fellow men
Fighting hard not to submit to the terror and pain

A TEAR FELL. IT WAS HEARD AROUND THE WORLD

As we watched in horror and awe
Of how the desperate, the hopeless and helpless
Jumped into the abyss
Before the towers themselves dropped to the ground
In a horrendous crash, raining steel, dust, smoke
With a deafening sound.

A TEAR FELL. IT WAS HEARD AROUND THE WORLD

The Twin Towers
And our brothers, our heroes
Holding hands
How proudly they stood
For all the world to see
That side by side like centennials
They will always be
Holding hands they crumbled, side by side they died
And a thousand tears that day the whole world cried

A TEAR FELL. IT WAS HEARD AROUND THE WORLD.
THE TEAR CAME FROM HEAVEN
AND IT WAS GOD WHO CRIED.

My daughter’s poem translated into English

It is 8 a.m. on September 11,
The brothers are already awake
Opening their great big doors
To let the people in

The twin brothers are very proud
For they are beautiful admired and luxurious
They look at each other mutually
Wishing for another photo

Today is September 11,
It is 8.a.m. and a lot of people enter
Children, young ones, the elderly
Of every sort of every age
Some to work, others to relax
Others are on vacation

Today is September 11,
Something horrific has happened
One of the Brothers was fatally wounded.
Before clashing to the ground
He looks at his brother
And tells him not to cry
And to always stay standing

Even though he was disconcerted
Told him to hold on
That too many people had already entered.
But no matter how much he tried
To the floor in an instant he went down.

His Brother cried and cried
And in another moment he also was hit
He didn’t understand why the abuse
He also fought to stay on foot
Even though his heart was slowing its beat
His greatest pain was for his Brother.

Before collapsing all he thought of
Of the people that admired
The Towers
Of the times that he and his Brother
Playfully counted all that had entered
And that today on the 11th of September
His Brother he had lost.

How many photos, how many videos,
Were taken of the horrible scene
How many surprised children
Men, women,
Asking
What has
Just happened
What does this all mean?

Of the Great Twin Towers
That were one day wounded.
I will always hear them say

“PLEASE REMEMBER US AS THE STRONG TOWERS
NOT OF THE ONES WHO SURRENDERED.”

It is already 11:a.m. and the Towers
Are on the ground
A lot of people are hurt and dead.
Today is a day of mourning
Today is the 11th of September
The saddest day in my memories.

Still in shock with what had happened that morning, late that night as we stil were glued to the news I took my pad and wrote what I was feeling with what happened. My 18 year old daughter, Frances, did the same thing and after each other read the other’s poem, we held each other and cried. I wrote mine first and then added hers. She didn’t even give it a title.

both are beautiful, touching, and heart-wrenching writes. lovely tributes indeed! thank you!

  • Thank you very much Mohawk. So many years have gone by, so many things have happened since then, hate and yet empathy all blending in trying to understand, but it will still be the day we will never forget.
    Once again thanks

Congrats Iris on y9our feature. Good writing! And yes my friend, all across the world people united with those who lost loved ones! I know that my thoughts are with those who lost loved ones on that day!

  • Thank you very much Betty. Even though at first with the shock of it I felt like we were alone watching this, I later realised that the whole world was watching and in shock also. I know everyone was also hurt and were brothers and sisters to us in this time of need. I guess no one will ever forget that day.

iris you and your daughter are both so sensitive of others
    please show this to jason
and my most meaningfull part is this becaue i know its truth
‘A TEAR FELL. IT WAS HEARD AROUND THE WORLD.
    THE TEAR CAME FROM HEAVEN
AND IT WAS GOD WHO CRIED.’
i know as hosts we do not generally put ourselves on the welcome page but i want very much that at least this part goes there with a link to the rest

  • OH thank you so much Annie. I am so glad you liked both poems. My daughter and I were so emotional that day. Well, I guess everyone was. The whole world was. And about the meanful part, I agree with you. We all cried dearly, but it was God who cried the most, for we are all his children and this is what we are doing to each other. Thank you for your suggestion.
