What is Love?, I ask. Does anybody really know?
Could it be just a word that sounds beautiful
that comes out of a poet’s muse
or out of his confusion
or is it just an illusion
and he really is just a fool?
Love. Does that word originate from the mouth of a poor idiot
that makes his quest an impossible mission
thinking that Cupid is not a mythology
but a reality
and not a product of his imagination?
There are those that brag that they have found it.
And that because of Love
they radiate in happiness
And they take pleasure in Love’s luscious bliss
While others swear that it is death taking you to the bowls of hell
where no one will hear your screams and you are left all to yourself
where no one will listen to your desperate cries
because it is only a disillusion full of falsehood and lies
Even the stars and the Moon in the name of Love
with their beautiful, scintillating lights
They dance while the seduce you at night
and have you hypnotized
because they are Love’s allies
and they make you fall under their spell and magic
while Love entramps you and helpless in it’s hold you lie.
What a controversy, what mania
this thing of the heart
that it even has the most Macho of men
in a stupor, bleeding, weeping, singing, writing for and about Love
while letting Love rip them apart.
Well, I’m not a poet, a bard
or anything that looks like it
Nor an idiot or a fool, not even a brilliant
going after a crazy vision
But yes I will say that Love does exist
that it is not jeolous or selfish
that it is the most beautiful sentiment
that God from the Heavens sent
Because He gave his Love
His Most Precious Gift
And because of this
I scream to the four corners of the world
“Long live the poets, the bards, the minstrels
the idiots, the fools, the maniacs, the brilliants.
Long live the Lovers, The People who Love
Long Live this Precious Gift that came from above
Long live this thing that we call LOVE”!
This one was originally written in Spanish and I just translated it into English. Now, I don’t know why I wrote this. It just came out and I did have fun writing it. All I know is that I was feeling a little whimsical, full of fun, kind of silly so I start poking fun at Love and the ones who fall in Love and I also write about the downhills of Love all in jest. But then, it kind of started getting serious and a little phylosophical. All of a sudden I turned to God, giving thanks for this precious gift, because Love involves a lot of things, for example the Love a mother has for her child, a sibling or a parent. A father also Loves and we were taught to Love our neighbor. I also wrote about the other side of Love, when people suffer because of it. People who Love intensively and don’t get any back in return. Even children suffer when they are negleted and abussed and all they want and deserve and have a right to is Love. So I finished it celebrating all of the poets, and people who are considered to be idiosts and fools (I among them) and the artists who create in the name of Love. I think this came out, without realizing it as an ode to Love and The Arts. I hope nobody feels offended, because if there is a bigger fool for Love, it is I. Oh, and I spelled Love with a capital letter, because it is a special word.
