The PA

Well no one ever said it
No one gave the drill to me
Though I knew my Pitmans shorthand
And I typed at 83
Though my spreadsheet skills were numbing
And my filing systems hot
No one ever quite prepared me
For a PA’s life and lot

For you’re faster than a fax machine
“Be here and there at eight”
And you’re stronger than a forklift
With the patience of a Saint
You are smarter than the average boss
(That wouldn’t take a lot).
You’re more flexible than Play Dough
“Can you work till ten o’clock?”

You’ve more foresight than a prophet
You’re more loyal than a dog
You’ve mind reading capabilities
That make the mystics sob
And your shoulders must be ample
To accept the blame you’ll get
“Well I might have said to do that –
But it isn’t what I meant”.

So I’m hanging up my wonder suit
And handing in my cape
I believed my job description
That’s my only real mistake
And you can tell the bosses
That the moment I am gone
I’ll be starting my group therapy
At ‘Shitkickers Anon’.
