I was asked to paint six windmills. A friend made photocopies of the original paintings, laminated them and pasted it on lovely painted coffee tins. She sold them on a local market as “containers for dad’s things.”
I must say, I felt like a farmer in the Karoo, South Africa after the sixth painting! ;-)
Here in the South African Heartland – the Karoo – the windmill (windpump) is the premier icon.
These creaking old giants opened the interior of southern Africa for human habitation and farming more than a century ago – and many of them are still out there, faithfully doing their jobs.
Honderde windpompe is steeds wydverspreid oor die Suid-Afrikaanse landskap te sien.
Waterpaint on Bockingford 300gsm.
