A monkey is any cercopithecoid (Old World monkey) or platyrrhine (New World monkey) primate. All primates that are not prosimians or apes are monkeys. The 264 known extant monkey species represent two of the three groupings of simian primates (the third group being the 22 species of apes). Monkeys are generally considered to be intelligent and, unlike apes, monkeys usually have tails.

A rule in the Kruger:
Monkeys and baboons are very cute and can be entertaining for young and old, but please do not feed them.

By feeding them, you are signing their death warrant, as they become aggressive. By feeding these animals you do not only aggravate the situation but you also make these animals lazy and they become dependant on this food supply.
Before going out in the morning in search of animals please make sure that you have put all foodstuffs securely away and close your bungalow’s windows! Remember that monkeys and baboons have learnt to open up fridge doors and cupboards.

This is really a beautiful capture Liz, her coat is absolutely perfect! And the baby looks so soft and fluffy, you’ve made me see monkeys in a different light!

  • These two were playing near our bungalow, was great to watch them…and they don’t sit still for too long! Thanks Maree!
