(You can read my story in AFRIKAANS)
We went to the Kruger National Park, my hubby and I. It was my birthday and a week ago our wedding anniversary. We just had to celebrate it! And yes, I am sixty three years old now! Does it sound very old to you? Don’t let the numbers influence you, I sometimes still feel as if I’m only twenty-one!
On the 14th of February we started our new day, happily looking forward to what the day might bring. We left the camp at about seven, full of expectations. My first surprise was when we saw three or four lovely giraffes just outside the gate. My favourite animal! They were walking across the road, showing off their beautiful tall necks and slender hips, their lovely soft eyes and very long eyelashes.
Then suddenly there was a turn in the road and there stood this ELEPHANT! A giant old bull with long, white tusks and huge feet! At the same moment someone back home decided it was time to phone me to wish me happy birthday! Unnecessary to say, my attention was not al all where it should be!The elephant walked slowly towards us, coming closer every minute. I managed to take a picture, (only ONE!) of him before my husband drove off quickly. We were in a tight spot! And I was as white as a sheet! I only saw his big ears waving and his trunk lifting up in the air.
It was an hour or two later when I started to feel normal again!
An experience that I will never forget: an old bull wanted to come and say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me!
