’n Klein, wit eiertjie
het op los, droë takkies gelê
in die mik van ’n winterboom
weerloos, oop en onbeskroomd
wie’t vir moederduif gesê
om haar eier presies daar te lê
was dit dat ek stil moes staan
sodat dit aan my siel kan raak
dìs mos wat wonders maak

To all my English friends, this was done as an example for the challenge in Afrikaans is my moedertaal/ Afrikaans is my mother tongue
The photo was taken in our yard in Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa. A dove’s egg in the nest. I wrote an Afrikaans poem about it…..
and my friend, the poet Rick Heller wrote a beautiful English poem for everyone to enjoy!
Thank you Rick!
a simple joy
by RJ Heller
Tenderly placed, they caress and protect,
home for the soon to be traveler
Cupped like a hand, balanced with shear precision,
the waiting begins
Bathed in light, warmth, and a mother’s constant care … soon …
Leaves will stretch, flowers yawn,
wind will retreat and rest,
a cadence in simple rhythm,
measured by time and place
one day will yield, from whiteness so perfect, magical
a pure and delicate gift of perfection,
a present to us and to all,
who see with eyes open
nature present and lovingly revealed
as a simple joy….
