My friend, Rick Heller from Palmerton in the United States wrote this lovely poem. After reading it, I saw this picture in my mind. I painted it in acrylic and used a palette knife.
night sky by R.J. Heller
we are part of everything, and because of this, it shines just a little bit brighter
Looking up to the darkness, I seek something
not sure of what it is, I continue, searching.
Glimmer of light, a color not palpable, but there
takes hold of my senses, speaks in shadows.
Cold chill, night air, stars so bright
salted popcorn laughs a hearty laugh,
shines so splendid, sprinkles me with its spice.
An infinite horizon is out there, beyond my gaze
the vastness of it, the timeless wanderings of light
where it begins, is where it ends.
A thousand stars blink, then are gone
only to be reborn, as another again and again.
Oh to be a star, where thoughts be placed, and
then replaced by another, magical.
Looking up to the darkness, so bright, the sky moves
waves a hello, a goodbye, and looks back at me.
Grand in scale, yet I feel so small, but part
of this glorious second, minute, hour.
I move with the stars, the planets, the heavens,
and realize I am part of the magic, look
in the mirror, at the night sky, reflected in my eyes.
