The Bathroom - Bonegilla 1955 by

On a recent trip I re-visited the immigration camp at Bonegilla, which now is a memorial to over 300 000 migrants who arrived in Australia between 1947 and 1971 and this is where it all began for me in June 1955.

Oh Hans I know a couple of people who spent time here … we also have Scheyville near us here which also housed immigrants. I do hope they preserve these places appropriately thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you Rosalie, hopefully they do preserve some of it as it is part of Australias history

Thanks to Rosalie for alerting me, to your captures, Hans. Oh, how I hated the ablution block. Straight from a cosy, neat apartment, in Gouda, the Netherlands, to this!! (Quite a distance away from our rooms and so public, for an only-child of 12.)
This is the first time I’ve seen this. Wonder what I’ll dream about tonight!!

  • Thanks for your comment Ozcloggie,I hope I you will have a very pleasant dream tonight but it must have been awfull for a child to have a wash in here

Looks just like the caravan parks we used to visit on our holidays! Wouldn’t have been very pleasant in winter though!
