This is part of the disused Dinorwic Slate Quarry in Snowdonia, North Wales.

I actually love this place – every time I visit Snowdonia I just have to go and walk here – it is desolate and a mountain vista destroyed by humankind, but somehow to me quite beautiful. In my head I can hear the shouting of the men, the clanging of chains, the cutting of the slate, etc. I guess many see it as an eyesore from days gone by but there is beauty in all the abandoned cut slate; the blue greys, the cry of the birds, the few remainng trees growing on the mountainside hanging on in there for all they are worth………….
I background image of the slate mine with the raven added, converted to B/W; a few gradient layers added and then one PS texture filter on final image – all worked in CS5
