A white picket fence, a tree lined back yard, a white house and a garden – incredibly American! This is another of the photographs from my self-published book. Note the farmer crossing in front of the house. He is my finest example of serendipity. I was so intent on composition and evaluating where the light was falling, in terms of zone values, that I never saw him until I developed the film and began processing the negatives. My good fortune is that he winds up between the window and the edge of the building and doesn’t cut anything off.
The camera I used was the Hasselblad 500CM w/50mm wide angle lens with No.8 Yellow filter attached. The camera was set for f16 @ 1/125th sec while the Kodak Plus-x film rated at ISO-100 was developed in Ethol T.E.C. (1:15) for 6 min @ 75 degrees. This was a compensating developer.
