Boycott Anti-Christian Movement, a bad idea!
Virgil Jones wrote a journal entry encouraging the Boycotting of PBS for the airing of a program he found offensive because he misinterpreted the data being aired.: That is within his right. He decided to edit the comments made by myself and others that pointed out a problem with his reasoning. Are people of faith afraid of debate? Below are my comments that he chose to delete;
That program showed the archaeological information that exists as opposed to the interpreted text (with many alterations reflecting the political affairs of the times of the translations) that most people are used to reading. The show was attempting to point out historical information, without the filter of faith many people apply to the bible. Are you really going to encourage ignorance for all because your faith may be tested by a careful analysis of evidence? Isn’t that similar to the view held by the Church against Kepler and Galileo? At what point must we poke out our eyes or stop learning?
Please keep in mind that the God of Abraham is the source for all Jewish, Christian and Islamic texts, yet few people are willing to try getting along with each other instead of arguing over religion.
Those for whom faith is more important than evidence, see an attack where none should exist. Faith never requires evidence or justification for itself.
The show was based upon historical data. That it did not align itself in accordance with your faith, means only that the data presented was not in agreement with the translation of your Bible.
Consider this, Windows and Linux are both operating systems for PCs. If you are only familiar with windows, a program based upon Linux will be vastly different than its windows equivalent, yet both are equally valid for proper running of computers found on university campuses. The texts presented in the show are not necessarily from a sect that your brand of Christianity arose from, but are no less valid in describing the views of that particular sect. Your comment does encourage ignorance as it emphasizes faith over archaeological evidence with regards to the reading of ancient texts.

Some people are afraid of anything they don’t understand. The call to boycott PBS is ridiculous and an exercise in futility. PBS is funded by tax dollars for the most part. Their programming will continue whether anyone watches. Fear of learnin’ is a mighty powerful fear indeed.

I should add that funding for PBS also comes from charitable foundations as well. :-)

I AM NOT SURE WHY VIRGIL HAS AXED EVERY ONES OPINION BUT MINE AND HIS OWN. I SUPPOSE MINE WILL BE NEXT. IF AN IDEA IS PUBLISHED IN SUCH A PUBLIC FORUM SUCH AS REDBUBBLE WOULD NOT IT BE OPEN TO DISCUSSION. OR IS THIS A CLOSED BOOK TOPIC? ( NO PUN INTENDED ) THE “THEORY OF BUNK” CONCLUDES ALL WHO CLAIM TO BE SINGULARLY CORRECT ARE INHERENTLY WRONG…

Sam, I am fairly sure Virgil never read anything except “your right” in your reply.
