Artist's Description

I took this image a few days ago whilst on the way to the Barossa Valley with a girlfriend and my sister. The large tree is a native Eucalyptus tree. Couldn’t resist taking a photo of the purple even though it is a noxious weed in this state and most others I think. It is known as Paterson’s Curse or Salvation Jane (Echium plantagineum ). Paterson’s curse/Salvation Jane is toxic to pigs and horses, and the hairs may irritate cow’s udders. Sheep are more resistant but over a number of years they develop liver damage, which may cause death after sudden stress on the liver as from pregnancy or intake of lush feed.

The flowers are of value to the honey industry.
