Mission San José de Tumacácori was established in January 1691 by Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino. It is located at the town of Tumacácori, Arizona and is open to the public from the Tumacácori National Historical Park visitor center. It is the site of a Franciscan mission that was built in the late 1700s and it takes its name from an earlier mission site founded by Father Eusebio Kino in 1691.

Outstanding B&W capture and composition. Bravo! Did you shoot this in monochrome and use a red filter?

  • Hi Michael, Thanks much for your wonderful comments and thanks for asking how I did this. I shoot all my work in color & then head to the software to do levels, curves, convert to b/w etc. For this one I used a program called Tiffen DFX to convert to b/w. I go into the area of the Film Lab and went to Film Stocks & selected one that I thought would work on this photo. I decided to go with Agfa APX400 – Lomo LCA because that gave an area that hightlighted the white area of the church & produced a nice vignette. I can the play with sliders for brightness/contrast/shadows/midtones/sharpness/vignette/RGB etc. No red filter used here just software! Thanks again, Michael.
