San Francisco de Asís Mission Church ~ Rancho de Taos by

San Francisco de Asís Mission Church, c. 1772, is one of the best known and most photographed churches in New Mexico. The Spanish Colonial adobe building has twin bell towers and an arched portal entrance that overlooks an enclosed courtyard. Also known as “Ranchos Church,” this sanctuary was built in the late 1700s and was made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams, among many other artists who became fascinated by its looming buttresses. The San Francisco de Asis Church is still an integral part of its community. Surrounding the church are shops, galleries, trading posts, and restaurants – all housed in old adobe buildings as well.

Fantastic image Lucinda; love the monochrome treatment. Very suiting for this frame. Love it.

  • Hany, I so value your words. I decided the mono was the best! Thanks so very much! Sometimes I just need to sit back & review both options. In doing so I would have come to your same & wonderful conclusion! Thanks much, my friend.

Hi Lucinda; I feel so bad now! I hope I did not offend you in any way, shape or form by suggesting I like this version of this image better than the other version; you really didn’t have to take the sepia-toned image away just because of my comment. Again, it was just an artistic comment from my end; and I totally, totally respect YOUR artistic interpretation of it in different tones. I hope you would post the other version again as it was just as beautiful and powerful. Hany

  • Hany, you did not offend me in any way! No problem at all. I really just didn’t like the other version that much & should not have posted it. Lucinda
