A Nice Chair To Sit In Outside At The Dumpster by

Discarded Chair

By Mrs. Dark

Discarded and outliving forms of usefulness
Those brittle broken legs scatter like dust debris
Upholstered seat with springs that lull to hopelessness
Old wood and leather void of memory

What if you could see past broken copper springs
Which spiral out like worms that plough the finest earth?
See far beyond the grit and sawdust future brings
Cast back to days of functioning and worth?

Then you would hear sweet laughter in the softest tones
As child and doting parent meet to share a meal
Held aloft in safe support of comfort zones
’Til scraping wooden legs avow their fill

Once stepped upon to raise a soul to higher reach
To find in darker recesses what once was lost
And propped against a door to keep the world from breach
Often a tethered bridge to help one cross

There was a time when one cared of its whereabouts
When its place in the world was carved with equaled care
Now creaking wood is frowned upon with surly doubts
Outlived its purpose, a discarded chair
