“There Once Was” is part of my continued interest in old dwelling places and forgotten, everyday history. I guess this has festered in me for years because as a young man my father and I used to go into the desert, hunting, shooting, and 4 wheeling. He had a World War 2 weapons carrier that he had purchased and worked on. He thought that it could take any pounding that the rough terrain could muster up. We more often broke down somehow as the fatigued vehicle wilted under the abuse. Off-roading would bring us to old abandoned homes or mine shafts. The mystery of the lives that they once revolved around always stuck in my mind as we looked for remnants left behind. I’m pleased with the outcome of this image.
