Making fresh tea in a village shop.
After a three or four hour walk up the Nilgiri Hills and through a tea plantation – wow, on a par with vineyards for looks – we ended up at a village.
At first apprehensive due to the number of flies (not for the tea so much but the nibbles we felt obliged to eat), the Chai was amazing. We’re stilling yearning for the same taste back home, yet to be found…
The action happened quickly, I was asked to take a photo – like much of India! – and without a flash, I ramped up the ISO and put it in paparazzi mode, firing off 10 or so images. I didn’t realise he would pour from that high so struggled to capture the entire action. This is as good as I got from the sequence.
This image is a ‘fake HDR’, taking a RAW image and exposing it at different levels before combining them.
Although grainy, I like the moment it captured and will never forget it (the moment but also that Chai).
