This big fellow was one of hundreds of Bison (Buffalo) that I saw while in Jackson Hole, WY in the last couple of weeks. Listening to the gutteral sound they make is a thrill all in itself. They were in their rut season and paid no attention to me at all thank goodness.

Nice capture my friend. Never seen one. Tom

  • They are certainly larger than cattle, Tom! Sort of like some of the larger Brahmans we see in Florida!

What a thrill to see them so close! I had hoped to see them on Santa Catalina Island earlier this year but missed out on the trip to the interior of the island. Here, the majesty of distant mountains creates an ideal backdrop.

  • I really don’t get out west much any more but I am constantly amazed at all the sky! Here in the south we have so many trees that the sky exposure is reduced a lot. You would really enjoy them I believe…

With that lens length you must have been pretty close, Robert! Bravery rewarded with a great picture.

  • Honestly most of these were shot from the highway. The park service warns you not to get too close but the bison walk up to the highway and cross right in front of you… I have raised cattle for many years and was comfortable as to how close to get without any safety issues.
